roger that. the entire Macrium folder is 317 MB. the image files say they are 175 MB (thats the part thats supposed to go on the flash drive I reckon.)
Not too sure what you mean here, regarding the 317 MB. The packed iso is 147 MB, unpacked it's 171 MB. It's the unpacked iso that needs to be written to a flash drive (that's what was shown in your screenshot -- 175,030 KB = 171 MB).

YUMI is expecting to see a flashdrive. don't know if that matters or not.
Yes, don't use YUMI to burn the CD/DVD. Use either the built-in burning tool within w7 or something like The Official ImgBurn Website. Observe the 4x max limit. It's the iso you want to burn, not the unzipped 7z file.

I have downloaded Macrium few times now. I will try it again though.

just tried downloading Macrium again. no good same old same old. no changes at all.
Might have to ask Golden about this. I've not used it.

    thanks alot F5ing.

when I hover the cursor over the Macrium folder it says that it is 317 MB.
inside the Macrium folder are 2 files:
    a 7z file that is 146 MB
and the image file, an iso file that is 170 MB.

I will try burning the iso to a DVD following your advice.

Maybe I missed it in another post but what size flash drive are you using and how is it formatted?

hey marsmimar, my flash drive is 4 GB and I have formatted it in FAT32.

I burned the disc using the built in window 7 tool.

    I restarted. normal boot.

I checked my DVD. Macrium iso is set to open with Nero Express Essentials. I have not registered for it. and do not use it.

I checked the Official ImgBurn download mirrors. it looks like they want to use Nero (or something similar) too.

    I think I need a break here.

I'm gonna just think about this for a while.

FAT32 works for bootable flash drives.

Are you talking about the Nero ASPI Driver at the bottom of the ImgBurn download page? You don't need that, you only need the single ImgBurn setup file, available from any of the mirror links grouped together near the top of the page.

Just because Nero registered itself as the default handler for iso files doesn't mean you're only allowed to use Nero for iso files. Just right click on the iso file (in Explorer), select Open with ..., then select ImgBurn.

    hey you guys and girls,

    thank you again.

I am so grateful to you all. that was one heck of an experience. educational as all heck. maddening. frustrating.

a great exercise in patience and forbearance. oh whatever. am in a little bit of a state of disbelief that after all that, it actually worked.

thank you so much for hanging in there with me. thank you for your kindness and generosity.

    sincerely,
    Charlie
