You should be receiving several invoices through the mail for services rendered. All major credit cards accepted.

just received this message regarding my sony vaio laptop:

"Sony Firmware Extension Parser is missing a driver"

"Download and install the driver for Sony Firmware Extension Parser".

does anybody please have any thoughts as to whether I should do it or not?

here's info from the sony website as to what the driver does:

    "What Does This Do?

This utility installs the originally shipped version of the
Sony Firmware Extension Parser Device driver. This driver also resolves the yellow exclamation point error that may
appear in Device Manager next to "Unknown Device" which indicates
that a driver is not installed for that device."

I do not understand what this does. any thoughts as to what I should do?

Don't know what it is. I do know that these OEMs are really good at installing bloat though. It's good to be hesitant installing stuff just because something pops up saying that you should.

What sort of message box was it? Any extra info you can provide?

Do you see anything that's not working correctly on your machine? Device Manager issues?

Doing a little searching I found that it may also have something to do with laptop hotkeys (proprietary type functions).

Do a search on the Sony forum at https://forum.sel.sony.com/search.php using the search term "firmware extension parser" and see if any of the issues described in the first 5 or so threads apply to you. If they don't, and you're not having any other problems with your machine, I'd hold off doing anything about it pending further info.

If your Vaio was restored to factory specs then it would be normal for Sony to offer updated drivers, firmware, etc through Vaio Care. At least that's how it's done on my Vaio. When I get notice of any Sony updates, I'll make a new system image. Then I'll make a new restore point. Only then will I install the update. If the update works, great. No harm no foul. If it borks my Vaio I'll use the restore point to undo the update. And if that doesn't work I've always got my system image to fall back on.

As far as the process for doing any updates/installs, that's pretty much the same method I follow.

Use the image you created and prove to yourself that it'll work (and that you can do it yourself).

Not saying to do it now, though. The best way to do this, for the first time test, is to write that image to some unused hard drive you might have. And then boot from it to ensure it works to your satisfaction.
