Windows stuck on Classic theme.. Virus??

    Hello,

This is my first post on this thread, so I apologize if this is the wrong place!

My mom has asked me to look at her laptop, which she believe's has a virus. From what she has said, she was trying to stream the NBA on her laptop and wound up downloading some programs in order to stream the NBA. If she has a virus, this is deffinately where it came from. It sounds like the perfect scam to get people to download a virus as well.

I have fixed 2 viruses in the past, however it was easier because the first one was on my laptop (The Windows Vista Anti-Virus) tricked me. I knew where it came from though, so I was able to look up the fixes.

The second one was on a friends and they downloaded a fake (USPS Notification) from their e-mail. With the help of forums I was able to straighten that out as well.

So, I am comfortable navigating my way around computers, but I'm not totally savvy on all the terms and super technical stuff.

Here are the Symptoms on her laptop:

Theme has been from the "Windows 7" theme to the "Classic" theme. When I try to go back in to switch it back to "Windows 7" the option is grayed out and won't let me switch it.

The computer will not let me get on the internet. There is the icon in the lower right screen of the computer that you click on to connect to the internet. That is gone and it is not connecting automatically (like it was set up to do).

Icons have been moved around on her desktop screen.

The computer can not be remotely accessed. She has Norton Anti-Virus protection on that computer. She had Norton try to fix it I guess, but they could not remotely access the computer.

I'm not quite sure what I'm dealing with here, I was just wondering if someone could give me some insight and point me in the right direction in getting it fixed!

    Thank you!

Oh, something I forgot to mention. My mom said when she trys to get online, a notification will come up about a "Spooler Error". I have not encountered that though.
