    Microsoft Security Essentials

    Hello
Does anyone know if Microsoft Security Essentials can be installed in Wimdows 8 as a separate download. I have Win 7, love it and use MSE. I undestand it is not part of Win 8.
    Thank you

It's my understanding that Windows 8 uses MSE. They just renamed it Windows Defender.

Yep, it's as Lee posted above. MSE is called "Windows Defender" in Windows 8 now. :)

They made it easier because they made it default. I am amazed that they did not get sued yet - especially in the EU.

    defender

If I am not mistaken, Defender used to be MS security program or part of it and when MSE came along it disabled defender it by default.
Now it is their security program again?
Is Defender like MSE and Win 8 has a firewall or dis it just a scanner and you need a new a/v program? Can you use MSE with it?

It's exactly like MSE is now for Windows 7. Instead of you having to download it from a Microsoft website, it's already included with Windows 8. :)

Microsoft has a bad habit of naming products with similar names. Yes, Defender used to be a stand alone anti-spyware. For those who installed MSE, Defender would be disabled. Now in Windows 8 Defender is MSE. Which is not to be confused with Windows Defender Offline (a bootable utility that can scan your computer for malware.)

    MSE

Now that is good news -thank you for clarifying.

If you mess up with the iso file(need media in case require reinstallation later], what happens after you have paid?
I wonder if you get a key and can download again?

Very soon you should be able to get the official Microsoft ISO for Windows 8 from two websites (maybe more, but I'm not certain.) The two websites that have released official ISOs before for Windows 7 are Dell and Digital River. So I'm sure they'll also have ISOs for Windows 8 very soon.

Windows 7: Download legit disk images (SP1 included) - Microsoft OS Forum - Software & Operating Systems - Dell Community

Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life

You would download the ISO and then burn it to a DVD to make your own install disk. Then you would use your previously received Windows 8 Product Key to re-activate.

    burners

Would you be good enough to recommend a reliable burner. I currently use Ashampoo but that is only becasue it works with the Flip camera's MP4 files.

I usually place MG in front of all of my dwnloads for protection so I placed MG IMG in a search box but was uncertain of the results. Would this do what is required, to the best of your knowledge?

    seven2,

The Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool is a good one to use to create a bootable DVD or USB from an ISO.
