What does this error code mean: 0x805800d?

Norton AV and Firewall are fine, used both for 8 years.

Sorry, thought I did. No Wildfire games on my computer.

And, BTW, although my laptop computer is a different brand, it is just about a mirror image of this one in terms of having the same programs and OS; and yet no problems with the laptop.

his would appear to be a problem with Vista as well. See here:

If that doesn't help, maybe there's an issue with your Defender configuration. Did you try updating it? You might want to consider downloading it from Microsoft and installing it again.

I'm now at the point where I would like to re-install Windows Defender. Will a new install overwrite the present WD, or do I need to delete WD before installing WD again?

I would delete your old copy of WD and download the latest version. Better than trying to update your existing copy (IMHO)

Windows Defender is built into your copy of Windows 7. Theres a very complicated way to do it, but I don't think its wise myself. Here it is straight from the horses mouth so to speak:How do I uninstall Windows Defender? - Microsoft Community

Are you referring to using the Windows Defender Uninstaller Tool?
