MSE and Internet Connection take over 1 minute to activate on boot

I have Malwarebytes and MSE installed, I can't see any viruses or anything during scans, and everything seems to run fine with the computer with one exception.

When windows starts, the internet connection shows itself as busy, like it is trying to refresh, and MSE shows NOT PROTECTED. This continues for over 1 minute, possibly close to 2 minutes. Then they activate and everything is fine.

I have looked through my task manager, and I didn't notice anything odd, but this issue has me perplexed.

I am connecting directly to my router, this is a recent windows install (I did everything right).

Another thing I will mention, Intel RSTe also takes a little while to activate. Seems like it is not active for about 2 minutes, then it suddenly activates.

I searched, but everything I found had to do with performance issues, and that is obviously not my issue. The delay is the only thing that is burdening me, and I just want to verify that my computer is not compromised in any way.

Also, I have lurked for a long time here, this is an amazing forum with amazing people, thanks so much for all the help you've given me over the years.

Do you have homegroup running i believe i have seen similar threads where this can cause slow network starts on boot although i dont think it would affect MSE ?

I did, but I disabled it, and I'm getting the same issue. Yes, MSE and internet come active at the same time.

    Hrm, some very odd things...

I ran Hijack this 2.04, and got some odd errors. I couldn't copy the log file because it says it could not find an internet connection. Also, I got an error on the initial scan due to something about not being able to write to the hosts file. Here are the screenshots of the services and the error...

Just curious if anyone has any info on this, I still can't find anything. Also not sure why Hijack-this is not working properly

Tried disabling Asus software on the startup, not connected to homegroup, I cannot see any malicious processes in the task manager when this problem is happening. Still not sure why it is taking so long to load.

I sit here for about a minute or more waiting to use the internet while it is loading and MSE is inactive. I cannot find any solution online. Everything seems to run normal with the machine.

You could try booting in Safe Mode with Networking to see if the Internet connects faster.

    David,

This works, the internet comes up right away in safe mode. Did a scan while in safe mode, still no virii detection of any sort. The only other thing I think is worth mentioning is that when I'm in regular mode, during the time that MSE and the internet is stalled, when I go to task manager and click on the administrative 'show processes from all users' it also stalls until the internet and MSE become active. At that point, it shows many more processes than it shows by default, and I also noticed about 3 COM SURROGATE processes that terminated almost instantaneously as the window popped up to show all processes.

I'm thinking that I probably don't have a virus, but when I installed windows, I used a program called SMART32 to handle terminating services that I don't need in order to make the OS run quicker. I only used the light/safe modification option, but I'm wondering if this has something to do with it. If you would like me to try anything else, please let me know.

Disabling default services in Windows 7 is not recommended and that may be what is causing your issues.
Can you undo the changes you made with SMART32?

That's the first thing I would try.
