Useless, it doesn't update by itself.
Useless, it doesn't update by itself.
MSE missed 2 trojans on my PC, fortunately NIS2010 got them
new version available
Microsoft Security Essentials Version: 1.0.1959.0
Antimalware Client Version: 2.1.6519.0
How do we get the update? Windows update shows nothing and the update in the program only updates definitions?
The latest version:
Microsoft Security Essentials 1.0.1959.0
http://www.microsoft.com/security_es...s/default.aspx
Something weird going on with the update.
I have been using the present download from the Microsoft site.
Microsoft Security Essentials Version: 1.0.1611.0
Antimalware Client Version: 2.0.6212.0
Engine Version: 1.1.5502.0
Antivirus definitions: 1.77.0.0
Antispyware definitions: 1.77.0.0
I upgraded to:
Microsoft Security Essentials Version: 1.0.1959.0
Antimalware Client Version: 2.1.6519.0
Engine Version: 1.1.5502.0
Antivirus definitions: 1.77.0.0
Antispyware definitions: 1.77.0.0
After some checking of my Event Viewer I notice I have been getting a start up error from MS Security Essentials.
ERROR MESSAGE from Event Viewer
Session "Microsoft Security Essentials 00BE"
Stopped due to following error: 0x000000D
I couldn't find out what it was all about so I uninstall MSE and downloaded the latest from the website download and guess what...
It installed
Microsoft Security Essentials Version: 1.0.1611.0
Antimalware Client Version: 2.0.6212.0
Engine Version: 1.1.5502.0
Antivirus definitions: 1.77.0.0
Antispyware definitions: 1.77.0.0
I rebooted and the error was gone.
Can some of you that upgraded check this out to verify the current download version and if you have the newer version 1.0.1959.0 are you getting a startup error like I did in your Event Viewer?
I just downloaded the Win 7 x64 version and it is 1.0.1959.0 and was 7355 KB compared to the old ver which is 4832 KB. When I installed it the came up as an update.
I now have:
Microsoft Security Essentials Version: 1.0.1959.0
Antimalware Client Version: 2.1.6519.0
Engine Version: unknown - where do I find this info???
Antivirus definitions: 1.77.0.0
Antispyware definitions: 1.77.0.0
It seems to take longer to scan but went from 67000 items to 75000 items scanned.
There are two files msseoobe.exe and msseooberes.dll that were also updated and these may have been damaged causing the event error you had.
Jim
I just did another scan with MSE and it was back to its fast pace and back to 68000 items scan. Apparently the first time it is installed or updated it marks some files as safe and skips them in future scans. I hope MS knows what they are doing because I don't.
