Anti Virus Program

I have just been advised that my renwal fee for the ensuing 2 years will be £50-00!! I have seen comments about the MicroSoft anti virus/ security programme but am not sure about it, whether to download and use it or pay the £50-00???

Anyone give me some advice please??

Hi

Since I'm happy using Norton NIS but not prepared to pay their renewal fees I search for the best deals on the edition before the latest (which sometimes still has glitches) and purchase that. I have had no problems uninstalling the old version and installing the new version with it retaining my settings - of which I have many. This usually ensures that I can update to the latest version for free if I so desire but I usually don't since I prefer reliability over having the latest version of anything. I do keep it up-to-date however as I do for the OS. £25 per year doesn't seem expensive to me but perhaps you might find a better deal by searching.

That's my experience and works for me.

As Borg 386 says there are many good free anti-virus programs out there. MSE is one a lot of people use. Follow the link and make a choice thats relevant to you. Just make sure that if you DO switch to another, ANY other , that you completely remove all traces of the one you're using now. Thats very important! You didn't mention what kind you are using at the moment but just search "how to uninstall *****anti-virus" and follow those instructions. I don't switch very often as I've found one that works for me (free), but the last time I did , I used REVO uninstaller to remove the last one. (use the advanced tab) Its free too. Most any of the top tier free anti-virus free editions are decent enough, but get an on demand scanner too. I recommend Malwarebytes and/or Superantispyware. (again. both have free editions and are the ones I personally use)
