Windows 7: Do I Really need a FIREWALL?

It's also good to have outbound protection - as 3D Jed said, by default the Windows Firewall doesn't filter outbound connections. You can enable outbound protection but it's not flexible at all - it's either allow everything or block everything (you can add exceptions but you have to do this for basically every program)

I'd recommend the Windows Firewall Notifier, it basically just adds on to the Windows Firewall and automatically adds the rules for you.

My 2 cents worth perhaps incorrect if so please correct

If i can download a file from the internet with a firewall no problem why wouldn't me clicking the download button on one thing and it turn into something COMPLETELY different completely counteract all your security and firewall protection?

Also i have router firewall pc firewall and all this other stuff and the viruses still find a way in my machine no problem

My old xp witch i found better to turn off firewall dosent seem to get infected anymore than my seven with firewall protection...... probably due to router firewall.

Just personal opinion i havent been to impressed with all this security stuff so far all it has done is slow down my pc :P

Malwarebytes on the other hand it is great wouldn't have a pc without it those other antivirus people should take advice from thoses guys.

Malwarbytes has never slowed down my machine NEVER conflicts with other programs and almost ALWAYS fixes the problem......when it doesn't i usually reformat

The only reason why it doesn't slow your computer or conflict with other programs is because it's an on-demand scanner...

Do you have Malwarebytes Real-Time Protection? I recommend it for those prone to infection, aside Microsoft Security Essentials

You're the first one I've known to mention it :P
I always hear people recommending MalwareBytes as a separate backup layer of protection, but I never hear anyone recommending the real time protection; I mean, if its detection rate is so great, why does no one use the real time protection?

Are you the spokesMad for everyone?

First off it's not an AV but protection instead against malware which is a grey area so it goes alongside your AV. SuperAntiSpyware is the modern third choice for all-around protection.

I also only use the Malwarebytes scanner personally and on my installs. However about the fifth time someone gets infected I install the trial version for them and urge them to buy it and none have ever gotten infected again. It's more aggressive than MSE in every way.

But we're not here to sell it or any other program, only report what works best for Win7 which is what makes this site the top tech site on the web. I learned a long time ago that the ratings are always rigged, usually with an ad for one of the contestants on the same page.
