Please clarify, have you accessed Group Policy before?

Just dawned upon me that the Group Policy Editor feature is not included in the Windows 7 Home Premium edition which is what you are running.

Hi MavMin ... there is no "Group Policy Editor" in Windows 7 Home Premium. You have to 'Tweak' the registry.

    Thanks, Jacee!

We are moving in the right direction, sans Group Policy.

These are the results of the previous (before applying a fix) Farbar Service Scanner as far as the Windows Firewall goes:

    Windows Firewall:
    =============
MpsSvc Service is not running. Checking service configuration:
The start type of MpsSvc service is OK.
The ImagePath of MpsSvc service is OK.
The ServiceDll of MpsSvc service is OK.

bfe Service is not running. Checking service configuration:
The start type of bfe service is OK.
The ImagePath of bfe service is OK.
The ServiceDll of bfe service is OK.

The last results show no problem:

    Windows Firewall:
    =============

There is a problem, however, with the following:

    Windows Update:
    ============
wuauserv Service is not running. Checking service configuration:
The start type of wuauserv service is OK.
The ImagePath of wuauserv service is OK.
    The ServiceDll of wuauserv: "C:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll".

BITS Service is not running. Checking service configuration:
The start type of BITS service is OK.
The ImagePath of BITS service is OK.
The ServiceDll of BITS service is OK.

We will work on the above next, but first, please clarify the Group Policy issue.

Too late at this neck of the woods...gotta get some Zzzzzs.

    MavMin,

Can you post an image of the Group Policy error?

To take a snapshot of what you are seeing on your computer screen, here is what you do:
    • Open the window you need to capture.
    • Hold the 'Alt' key and press the 'Print Screen' key (often just labeled 'Prt Sc') on your keyboard.
    • Open an image editing application such as MS Paint program under Start > Accessories.
    • Paste the captured image into MS Paint.
    • Go to File > Save as, and save the image as a (.GIF) file on your Desktop (easy to find)
    Next:
    • Connect to the Internet, and go to Photobucket: Photo and image hosting, free photo galleries, photo editing | Photobucket
    • Once there, create a free account.
    • Click 'Browse' and search for the file you wish to upload.
    • Click Upload.
    • After uploading, place the cursor on the image. Four different link options show underneath the uploaded image.
    • Click on: IMG code (This line is used for using your image in a forum post. It makes the image appear full size in your reply.)
    • The IMG code is pasted to the clipboard
    • In your next post, right click on an open area, and select: Paste

Went to Windows key + R, hit Enter, and typed: services.msc ln the Run promptt, and then clicked OK.
Looked for the Group Policy Client service, and there it was.

    It is described as:

The service is responsible for applying settings configured by administrators for the computer and users through the Group Policy component. If the service is stopped or disabled, the settings will not be applied and applications and components will not be manageable through Group Policy. Any components or applications that depend on the Group Policy component might not be functional if the service is stopped or disabled.

So, we are not talking about the Group Policy Editor, which is not present in Windows Seven Home Premium.

    Try the following:

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right click Command Prompt, and select: Run as Administrator

Type the following at he Command Prompt's blinking cursor:

    net start gpsvc

    Does the service start?

Let's get rid of the "bundled" adware that was not unchecked when you downloaded or updated some programs:

Download AdWareCleaner AdwCleaner Download to your desktop
1.Right-click on adwcleaner.exe and select Run As Administrator to launch the application.
    2.Click on Delete button.
    3.Confirm each time with OK.
4.Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart. Please post the content of that logfile in your reply.
Note: You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[Sn].txt as well - n is the order number.

    MavMin,

Hope you have not given up yet...

While we are collecting more info, the Event Viewer tool VEW by Vino Rosso is free and can help look at system event logs for error messages and other information that may be pertinent, such as issues with client-side extensions.

    Please download VEW:
    http://images.malwareremoval.com/vino/VEW.exe
    Save to the Desktop

On Windows 7 or Vista, right-click the icon on the Desktop (VEW.exe), and select: Run as Administrator
Click Allow at the User Account Control (UAC) prompt.

    At the VEW program console:
In the Select log to query section, check:
    Application
    System

In the Select type to list section, check:
    Critical (not XP)
    Error
    Warning

In the Number or date of events section, check:
    Number of events
    Type 20 in the 1 -20 box

    Now, press the Run button.

A Notepad report opens on the Desktop when done.
Please provide the report contents in your reply.
