Question about optimizing AV resource usage & scan convenience

Hello, I'm a major computer guru, and I have a question.

You see, I bought a 14GB high speed USB 2.0 flash drive for readyboost. I figure I'd be able to see more performance boost if I knock the readyboost cache down a gig, and use that space to Avast AV. Do you think this could save me disk speed & such? I'm not looking for super swift scans, or speedy AV loadup, I just want to free up my HDD as much as possible for speed reasons, because I'm debating on buying a SSD, I figured I might as well optimize my own HDD first.

Is it even possible, can it even work... because most AVs need to do some mojo with your OS.
