I just manually updated this morning & this is what I have.

MSE isn't doing their AV ratings any favors by letting this go unaddressed as long as they have. Granted it was the weekend, but when it comes to security, this should be a priority they address ASAP.

This problem started on the 19th, 3 days ago.
How much longer will it take for MS to fix the issue, or publicly state an estimated fix date?

Does anyone know/ can anyone confirm if this problem is/is not present in Windows 8 Windows Defender?

    I don't have Win 8 so I can't confirm or help.
Here is a quote from the MS article about this issue....
*** For those who prefer not to read this entire lengthy discussion, Microsoft has been made aware of the issue which appears to be affecting all MSE and possible Defender on Windows 7 and prior for updates since the 19th of January. I expect that it will be fixed soon. If MSE is not alerting you, you don't need to do anything. If MSE is alerting that it is out of date and a search for updates does not yield an error, but also does not bring down any updates, you can manually update from here:
    https://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/default.aspx
Don't do this on dial-up as it is the full definitions and engine file. ***

For excrement and merriment, I downloaded the latest installation file for MSE, turned off my internet connection, uninstalled MSE, then reinstalled MSE. After the automatic download of definitions failed (as expected) at the end of installation, I reconnected to the internet, and ran the MSE updates again. The one that downloaded was 1.143.466.0. I immediately manually downloaded the definitions and wound up with 1.143.548.0. If this doesn't get fixed soon, I'm considering going back to AVAST! free.

Most of the time MSE Definition Updates are generated & up-to-date in the Microsoft Antimalware Center but doesn't install itself on the machine.

Therefore, mostly when MSE turned to orange warning signal i'll go to manually search for updates.

The main problem since jan 19, is i'll have to double my effort digging and DL the Definition Updates directly from MS and install.

Around 67Mb weight, only for few hours and before was just some tiny Kb and that was it!!
