There's no BEST security suite. Every user has different needs and expectations. Check out the security solutions officially certified by Microsoft out here.
Based on my tests, I can say that Avira and G-data security suites work perfectly. Symantec's NIS 2010 and Kaspersky's KIS 2010 have some minor issues that are expected to be addressed by release updates shortly. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self Assembled OS Win7 RTM, XP Pro, Arch Linux, Puppy (Quad boot) CPU Core i7 920 (OCed @ 3.8Ghz) Motherboard ASUS P6T Dlx Memory OCZ Gold 6GB DDR3-1600 Graphics Card Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 1GB (OCed @ 935/1300) Sound Card On-board Monitor(s) Displays Samsung 24" PSU Corsair HX620W Case Antec 1200 Cooling Noctua U12P Hard Drives WD Caviar Black 1TB, WD Velociraptor 300GB, Maxtor 250GB |

There have been a number of discussions here about what the best mix is for security, see this thread for some combinations - Poll: Which type of antivirus do you use, recommend?
Personally, I don't like to pay for software so I use PCTools, Microsoft's firewall, and COMODO's firewall (not all at once - different systems) and for antivirus I use Microsoft's Security Essentials (MSE). All systems are behind a router that does its own security thing. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Gateway, Toshiba Laptop, and Home Brew OS Windows 7 x64 HP, Windows 7 HP, Windows 7 Ult CPU Intel I3, Cerelon, Pentium 4 @ 3Ghz Motherboard Intel, Intel, Asus Memory 8G, 3G, 3G Graphics Card On-board Intel, On-board nVidia, nVIDIA card Sound Card on-board, on-board, SoundBlaster Monitor(s) Displays Hannspree HF237, Toshiba, SyncMaster 931B Screen Resolution default (all) Keyboard standard wired (all) Mouse standard wired (all) PSU 300w, unk, 650w Case black, black, grey Cooling air (all) Hard Drives 1T internal, 320G internal, 160G internal, 1T networked Internet Speed 6M down, 768K up Other Info Home LAN through Linksys hub to 4 port and wireless switch/router. All the mentioned Anti-virus software are good.
Check the reviews linked here and try one.
Avast also works quite well. Download FREE antivirus software - avast! Home Edition
I'm planning on trying MSE, soon. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number 76~2.0 OS Windows 7 Ult x64 - SP1/ Windows 8 Pro x64 CPU Intel Core i5-3570K 4.6GHz Motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z77X UD3H, f18 Memory 8GB (2X4GB) DDR3 1600 Corsair Vengeance CL8 1.5v Graphics Card Sapphire HD 7770 Vapor-X OC 1GB DDR5 Sound Card Onboard VIA VT2021 Monitor(s) Displays 22" LCD Dell Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Logitech Wave Mouse CM Sentinel PSU Corsair HX650W Case Cooler Master Storm Scout Cooling Corsair H80 2x12cm Noctua NF P12 , 2x14cm case fans Hard Drives Samsung 840Pro 128GB SSD,

Lots of good apps already mentioned in this thread. I personally like the combination of Eset AV and Comodo Internet Security (just for the firewall). Both of these perform well (both individually and together) and are light on system resources. (Comodo Internet Security also has an anti virus component which I don't use and am skeptical of, however, it recently received a good review, fwimbw.)
But for a simple all in one integrated "suite" type solution, Eset Smart Security is getting better and better as it gets more mature. However, neither of the Eset products are free, unfortunately. But they do offer a 30 day free trial. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP DV8t quad OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (Retail) CPU i7-Q 720 Motherboard Motherboard Chipset Intel Ibex Peak-M PM55, Intel Lynnfield Memory 6 GB Graphics Card nVidia GeForce GT 230M (1GB) Sound Card IDT High Definition Audio CODEC Monitor(s) Displays 18.4 inch HP Infinity FHD (Samsung 184HT03-001) Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard laptop Mouse Logitech VX Revolution Cooling Zalman NC-2000 notebook cooling pad Hard Drives Hitachi 500GB 7200 rpm (x2)

i highly recommend Trend Micro. I am running Windows 7 and it works great for me. It doesn't slow down my PC's performance at all. You should give it a try. Plus, I hear Trend Micro coupons is offering 10% off on their Antivirus + AntiSpyware 2010 software so you better check that out. I hope this helps. | My System Specs | | |
