MS Security Essentials
Does anyone have any idea when MS will have fixed the corrupt Win 7 64-bit version?

Make sure you have all MS critical updates downloaded and installed. You can skip any .Net updates for now.
Next, download TFC by Old Timer TFC - Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer - Geeks to Go Forums and save it to your desktop.
Save any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!
Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. If you are using Vista/Windows 7 right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator.
Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean.
If you are using Firefox and/or Google Chrome browser(s), you may have adware that came bundled with an update or downloaded add-on preference <--
Download AdWareCleaner http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ to your desktop
1.Right-click on adwcleaner.exe and select Run As Administrator to launch the application.
2.Click on Delete button.
3.Confirm each time with OK.
4.Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart. Please post the content of that logfile in your reply.
Note: You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[Sn].txt as well - n is the order number.
i just posted about a workaround on sunday...
MSE x64 english corrupt file install message
it works 100%, i tried it as i was desperately trying to get it installed for my daughter.
@boohbah, I had the same problem with my step-daughter's computer a couple of weeks ago. I'm posting what I did to 'fix' her's :)
I must have lucked out, I did a recovery on my niece's HP laptop on Saturday the 23rd and used Windows Update to install all the updates.
I had all critical, important and recommended updates installed first including SP1, but not any .NET before installing MSE v4.2.223.0 and it installed without any warnings or errors.
There was a failure on one of the definition updates, but it went to install the second time and was successful.
I suppose "Ignorance can be bliss".
sorry jacee i didnt realize you had a fix, i thought you were giving steps to try.
its interesting that althought the x64 english version gives the corrupt file message no other x64 (different language) give the error message. thats why i didnt think the ccleaner route was the fix.
apparently microsoft are aware of the issue and are working on it,giving the impression that is is at tMS end and not the consumers.
source..We understand that the x64 version of Microsoft Security Essentials is corrupted on the download center and Security Essentials Windows Online site. We are working on fixing this as fast as possible.
(Moderator note: the instructions below assume that you have enabled Microsoft Update when going to Windows Update. See: How can I tell if my computer is up to date?)
--[In the meantime, you can install MSE (if you do not have other antivirus software installed) by running Microsoft Update and looking for the optional update – Microsoft Security Essentials. We apologize for any inconvenience.]--
