Glad you got your SSD firmware installed and your other drive passed . I don't remember if you ran MSE again and see if the program still sees the virus ?

Yeah, originally I was trying to run Microsoft Safety Scanner, but I think that was too intensive on my drive, because it would just crash every time like 2 minutes in. I'll try running Microsoft Security Essentials instead and report back.

Hi Zibeltor

Have you scanned the PC with Microsoft Safety Scanner ?

downloadx64 bit OS

Note   Note
Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after downloading. To re-run a scan with the latest antimalware definitions, please download and run Microsoft Safety Scanner again

I ran a full scan with MSE, and no threats were detected.

I'll try MSS, but I'm a little nervous. It seems to rather consistently crash my computer; I'll give it a shot though, and update how this goes.

If it crashes . Try running the scan in safe mode if possible .

To get to Safe Mode . Restart the computer and keep tabbing the F8 key until you reach the Advanced Boot Options screen and choose Safe Mode with Networking log in under your account and run MSS from there .

Zibeltor,

You might want to remove the Microsoft Safety Scanner, downloaded again, and try running a scan. It may be that the program got corrupted, or something...???

If it gives you some attitude again, then, do the SMwNetworking like VK says.

Well the scan finished without any crashes or threats detected!

It seems like there were 3 main things, the virus, the outdated firmware on my SSD, and that peculiar default power setting. I just wanted to thank you guys for all your help with everything! First 24 hours without crashing.

Sorry, guys...false alarm.

I got another BSOD last night, but this one was a bit different than usual. For whatever reason, a physical memory dump of the logs failed, and it gave me this error code: "0xC0000010". Any of you guys know what to make of that? :/ Edit: I went ahead and added whatever the SF Diagnostic tool could pick up. If Jacee is still looking at this thread, I'm pretty sure the logs are safe. Kingvista hasn't been having any problems (I don't think) and both Microsoft Security Essentials and Microsoft Safety Scanner came up clean after full runs.

Trying to get rid of virtool:win32/obfuscator.xz
Read a couple threads and got a little head start. I ran Adwcleaner and am attaching the log from that and currently running TFC. I want to make sure its 100% gone and any other malware too. Would the next step be running an ESET scan?

Unable to get rid of virtool.win32/obfuscator.XZ
Hello, I'm a new member. I've got this nasty virus and I cannot get rid of it. Microsoft security essentials keeps detecting it every time I run a complete scan even though it says it is in quarentine. It does not detect it in safe mode. Maybe it is a rootkit? Avira detects it as a hidden...
