Security Question I am trying to devise a layered security approach for my PC. I wrote in about this a while back but some of the programs were messing with my PC so I uninstalled them. I recently found ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall. I currently have Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security 2013 installed. I like Trend a lot but don't like the fact that their Titanium products don't have a true firewall--only a booster which utilizes the Windows Firewall. Would installing ZoneAlarm's Free Antivirus + Firewall conflict with Trend's protection? I'm thinking yes just because there would be "2 antiviruses" running in real-time. | My System Specs |

I would think so too. 2 antivirus apps at the same time is never a good idea. That is different with scanners. There you can have several. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba - 4 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista, Windows7, Mint Mate, Zorin, Windows 8 CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to i7 Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse Trackball mice Hard Drives 5x HDD, 7x SSD, 12x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |

Quick answer, yes. AV software has to get inside of the system files where "normal" software is not allowed. Each AV can regard the other as malware due to this action. you can use free Malware Bytes (link under my sig) to run on demand scans. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built Desktop By DataTech OS Windows 7 Ultimate X64 SP1 CPU Intel i5-2550K, Differing ~4.4-4.8GHz No built in GPU Motherboard ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Memory 16GB G.Skill Sniper 2133MHz 4x4GB Graphics Card ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 460 Sound Card Onboard Realtek 5-1 Monitor(s) Displays Samsung P2570HD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Old, beat-up Dell USB From 10 yrs Ago Mouse Gigabyte m6900 wired PSU Corsair HX650W Case Inwin Dragon Rider Cooling Hyper 212 EVO w/two Noctua fans, push-pull, @1300 RPM Hard Drives Crucial M4 128GB for OS, 750GB Seagate MomentusXT for data, 500GB Seagate Constellation for storage Internet Speed 8-19 Mbs down, 3-4 Mbs up Comcast Cable Antivirus Norton Internet Security Browser IE 9, Opera when needed Other Info 4 case fans, LG BluRay-RE, ASUS DVD-RW, Mr. Fusion power generator with flux capacitor, 1.21 gigawatts. |

You're welcome. I think Trend Micro beats Zone Alarm in the AV department, but ZA used to have the best free firewall around. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built Desktop By DataTech OS Windows 7 Ultimate X64 SP1 CPU Intel i5-2550K, Differing ~4.4-4.8GHz No built in GPU Motherboard ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Memory 16GB G.Skill Sniper 2133MHz 4x4GB Graphics Card ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 460 Sound Card Onboard Realtek 5-1 Monitor(s) Displays Samsung P2570HD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Old, beat-up Dell USB From 10 yrs Ago Mouse Gigabyte m6900 wired PSU Corsair HX650W Case Inwin Dragon Rider Cooling Hyper 212 EVO w/two Noctua fans, push-pull, @1300 RPM Hard Drives Crucial M4 128GB for OS, 750GB Seagate MomentusXT for data, 500GB Seagate Constellation for storage Internet Speed 8-19 Mbs down, 3-4 Mbs up Comcast Cable Antivirus Norton Internet Security Browser IE 9, Opera when needed Other Info 4 case fans, LG BluRay-RE, ASUS DVD-RW, Mr. Fusion power generator with flux capacitor, 1.21 gigawatts. |

I've been really satisfied with Trend. I've seen a lot of good reviews on them, did a prevention test on their products myself and it has saved my PC many times from attacks. It's really good. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number ASUSTeK Computer Inc./U56E/Laptop OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with SP1 CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50GHz Motherboard ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Comodo free firewall is a great free software and does the job pretty well.
Your Trend Micro AV + Comodo Firewall can be good combination.
Never install 2 AVs side by side. That creates lots of conflicts and kills the system. | My System Specs | | |
