Windows 7: kaspersky security suspect

kaspersky security suspect

Last week, during a routine browsing session (no dubious visits involved) I suddenly got a banner telling me that 3 network connections were active and would close in 10 seconds (?). Immediately after, a red Kaspersky (complete internet security package 2013) banner appeared, telling me Kaspersky was disabled, then a Windows banner telling me there was no internet security active. Then Kaspersky came up and indicated its databases (updated automatically on boot-up) were corrupted and must be updated.
By then I had unplugged the LAN connector but I plugged it back in and updated the Kaspersky databases and after that everything went back to normal. However, a couple of days later it all happened again in exactly the same fashion; so now I have no confidence in Kaspersky. Any input gratefully received please.

Urbanspaceman1,

I'll be poking around a little here but some things to think on. I also use KIS 2013 with same OS Kaspersky is having some issues of late with auto scans and some reported update lockups also. It seems these are related to current patch "f" and subsequent updates after it's implementation.

If you can see update failures in your logs:

Something to try might be a reinstall of your KIS 2013 product (be sure to image first!! just incase). Be sure to do this the recommended way, and this would be:

Disconnect from the internet> then quit KIS (right click red tray icon chose "exit")> right click start menu entry for removing KIS and run as admin, check only to save activation data (if you get a failure cancel and then retry) reboot when asked> clear your temp folders, reinstall with the latest previously saved file for your region and product> update data bases and reboot

Patch "g" is due out soon and will address issues related to scan failure, shut down hangs, and a few other annoying quirks

It seems like the year of challenges for the security software makers, if you read the forums for the big three they are all having a time. Save MSE

All the best -- Bill

Thank-you Bill. I must confess to being a good way behind the experience needed to implement your suggestions, so I feel I aught to leave things alone until I know better. I've not had a similar occurrence to the two that inspired this thread so maybe they have done something.
I did contact KAS regarding the slowing-up of my shutdown with the advent of System Watcher in Kis 13 and decided to disable it for the present. They told me they were working on it but couldn't predict a resolution. Thanks again for your studied attentions, it is much appreciated. Keith.
BTW. My shut-down went from 7 seconds to 27 seconds.

You are very welcome, the shut down times are to be addressed with patch "g" it is in beta testing now and due out soon. This should allow system watcher to be re-enabled and the program should work better (or as intended).

If I can be of more detailed assistance let me know, seems like your current plan is sound. I would check when you think of it to be sure you are updating so you don't get another surprise, you can do this easily by opening Kaspersky and viewing the status of "Databases" on the main screen.

All the best -- Bill

Well then, I finished installing KIS 2012, it hasn't been RTM'd I think just yet but so far it is a GREAT improvement from KIS 2011. In fact, I'm doing a full scan right now and I haven't even noticed that it was even running! My system is currently running at 2.8Ghz. The system requirements...
