Is the Windows 7 firewall "good enough"?

I have been using avast! Internet Security for a few years but I am considering switching to the free version of avast!

avast! Internet Security has a built-in firewall.

Do you think the Windows 7 firewall will suffice for a fellow who is pretty careful about where he goes or should I consider a third party firewall? If so, do you have any recommendations?

    Thanks

I'm very careful too, and I use the firewall in my router (Linksys WRT54GL). I haven't had any problems since maybe 2001 or 2002 which was about the last time I looked for illegal "warez" and even certain porn. Ahem. Enough of that. lol My point is that I don't use any software protection of any kind, yet I haven't had any problems in the last 10-12 years because I'm very careful and I don't do anything that I really shouldn't be doing anyway like I used to. My only protection is my router, and so far I've been absolutely 100% fine.

Before I had my router, I was using the Windows Firewall, and that was indeed good enough as well because even then I wasn't having any problems. I think I started using my router's Firewall protection maybe 5-6 years ago.

Thanks for the post. My router has a firewall also but as I understand it, it won't work because my ISP requires that I be in DHCP mode.

I have until August 1 before I make the change so I'll hang around to see if I can gain any more words of wisdom.

    Once again, thanks.:)
