Windows defender canīt access tools tab to turn it off

    Hello,

how many miracles does it take to turn off windows defender...
It seems to be easy through the tools tab as folks told me but if I click that nothing pops up, like... it just doesnīt work.
Just did a clean install to get everything back on rails but this doesnīt work.
Also why does it take ages to get things updated in windows anyway (like defender, windows update).

Another question: is it wise to install SP1 right away from a downloaded installer or should I do that through the automatic windows update

Hi Auk, welcome to 7F! :)

You don't mention how many miracles you've used up, but have you seen this?

Option One: Windows Defender - Turn On or Off

If you are using MSE for anti-malware protection, Defender will be automatically turned off.

To answer your last question, You can update either way, but in my opinion it would be easier if you allowed it to happen automatically. You really should try to get it done as soon as possible in order to protect your system.

    Well thx for the reply.
Nevermind the defender thing, I've sorted that out. It wants you to update first before you get access to the controls, at least that's how it seems to work to me, weird as it is.
I'll install SP1 through the installer then. I have to get my machine up and running in no time as my time is precious you see...

    regards

I would recommend after installing Windows Updates to install MSE.

Use this link and follow the prompts: Service Pack Center - Microsoft Windows

The process is automatic, when you click the link windows will figure it out for you.
