On the AdwCleaner log it says the OS is XP . Did you run the app in XP or Windows 7 ?

Rerun AdwCleaner
1.Right-click on adwcleaner.exe and select Run As Administrator to launch the application.
2.Click on Delete button.
3.Confirm each time with OK.
4.Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart. Please post the content of that logfile in your reply.

OK I am about to re-run AdwCleaner but first I just discovered something interesting.

I just googled one of the errors that SpyHunter 4 is finding (i.e. {DF84E609-C3A4-49CB-A160-61767DAF8899} and it turns out that several places are discussing it and saying it is a REAL "Web Cake" error.
e.g. see Manual Removal Guide for WebCake.BHO

In fact on a whim, (not that I know what I'm doing) I found it in my Win7 Registry using REGEDIT.

But as the author on spybot.info says "software should usually be better suited to remove malware, since it is able to look deeper."

So how come none of these other utilities I have been running have found it?

OK back after AdwCleaner

OK Jacee, my bad - I dont think I understood the interface correctly last time around and probably didnt hit the Delete button.

AdwCleaner[S1].txt
AdwCleaner[R1].txt

Btw, this was definitely on my Win7 x64 PC, not from my laptop.

OKay I have just rerun the FRST here are the results

FRST.txt

Addition.txt

P.S. One bit of good news - the much hated SpyHunter is no longer finding anything nasty.

Done. Except that the file was called: jre-7u25-windows-x64.exe

What next?

e.g. What tests should I now run on
A) this, my Windows 7 PC
B) my old XP laptop (with which I regularly sync data)
C) my 2 external hard disks (which I use for backups) ?

Let's take a look at what you have.

DDS.com
DDS.pif
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click the dds icon to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt <--- will be minimized in the task tray
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
Include the contents of both logs in your next post.
The scan will instruct you to post Attach.txt as an attachment.
