Download DDS from one of these links:
DDS.com
DDS.pif
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click the dds icon to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt <--- will be minimized in the task tray
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
Include the contents of both logs in your next post.
The scan will instruct you to post Attach.txt as an attachment.

sv76,

From the website you provided, it appears the Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool (KVRT) was downloaded.
Do not see an online option for KVRT.

Where the issue gets complicated is that you have the Kaspersky Internet Security installed, and then also used the KVRT. The scan engine in KVRT is the same engine family as used in the Kaspersky Internet Security.

The file C:\Windows\System32\drivers\1669646drv.sys may belong to the KVRT, but, it may also belong to the Kaspersky Internet Security, or the Kapersky Anti-Virus program included in KIS!!!

My speculation is that at this point you may need to uninstall the Kaspersky Internet Security using the removal tool to uninstall Kaspersky Lab products:
Service articles

After that, run a diagnostic such as DDS, OTL, or the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool, to determine if there are any Kaspersky remnants left.

Not all files associated with Kaspersky has its name included in it, so it may be an involved process.

Someone else may have a better idea...

Thanks for the reply, Cottonball.

While looking around in the control panel, I found the offending source files listed in the DDS. The files are sourced from Kaspersky, so it is very possible. I've had to reinstall Kaspersky once for corrupted files, so it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility.

Luckily, this computer is old and mostly used for typing, so I'm not too worried about it at this point since I can find no evidence that it's serious malware. I was debating about giving it to my brother since he needs a computer but since this issue and a malfunctioning keyboard (separate issue: I type like an angry white person), I'll probably end up sacking it for something better anyway.

You guys were very helpful though! I definitely learned more about computers in the past week than I'd ever imagined I would.

Test your anti-malware/anti-virus protection with EICAR
As many of you know(quite a few don't) what EICAR is, this is a open poll to see what programs pick it up and what programs fail the basic tests. I am conducting this poll because A-Squared failed to see this on a scan, but MSE picked it up before it could be downloaded. So after you take...
