    forgotten password


    Hi all,

    i have a friend who has passed me her acer laptop 5742Z-P614G25Mnkk. she states that she logged into her computer the other day no issues but when logging in today the password is rejected.

    I asked her if she had created a password reset USB or disk... the answer no.

    I was going to just complete a fresh re-install of windows setting the laptop up to boot to disk and installing form there.

    however, when i select F2 to enter the bios it asks for the current password.

    also when i boot into recovery mode it asks for the account password.

    sooo... here i am. i'm stuck.

    any suggestions?? has anyone ever heard of windows 7 resetting its password?

    User Account Password - Change from WinRE

    yes i cannot access WRE...

    problem solved. upon receiving the laptop and booting up the actual error turned out to be a failed user profile which was blocking the user from logging into the laptop.

    set the bios (entering the password which worked) to boot from DVD/CD and completed a fresh re-install of windows 7. thank you for you comments.
