well, that a bit unfair, don't you think? lol, it's fine, I can make due, I'll be getting a new laptop in a couple months, yay!!

EDIT: Wait, 18? why? where does it say that? according to the terms of use or privacy policy of most sites, you usually have to be only over 13 years old to join a site, why would it be any different for the school? do all the sites require this? Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Could I try telling Spyware Info Forum up front that I am just about to turn 15, but am willing to learn and dedicate my time to the class? This is something I really want to do and I would be grateful to get in.

@Jacee:

Guess things have changed. One could apply to more than one school, and make a choice to join, or not, when accepted. But, guess that was years back...

Do you know "Old Timer" at BC? He's the guy who created many of the BC fix tools which we all use today. Hijackthis, in the old days. Then OTL, and many others.
Do you work at BC?

Going down memory lane...back in the 90's, HijackThis, created by a Netherlands fellow by the name of Merjin Bellekom, was the 'tool of choice' at many malware removal forums. However, Merjin sold HJT to Trend Micro, and it is not the same. Merjin went on to work for Malwarebytes.

Can't remember oldtimer being part of HijackThis, though. Recalling again, he showed up later, like around 2005+, with his tools OTL, OTM, TFC, etc. Whether OTL became the 'tool of choice' at BleepingComputer is unbeknownst to me, and have been there since 2006.

A tool called DDS, created by sUBs, the author of ComboFix, has been on the forefront at BC for quite a few years. And, oldtimer gravitated to GeekstoGo, and has been there for quite a while. OTL is the 'tool of choice' there.

As dfar as I've seen, only ONE of the sites I was looking at allows you to register in more than one school (only two, actually, although they don't recommend it), but that does no one any good if no other schools don't allow it.

No I am not a staff member of BC, just a member. After your history lesson, I had to Google all this and found, the same information you describe.

This is from Wikipedia. HijackThis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It appears I was mistaken, at least in part. But, it seems to me, back in the day, OT was involved with HJT. I remember other BC members always giving OT the credit of a lot of the tools used there. So, you say he's moved to GeekstoGo. Wonder what happen there? Maybe I shouldn't ask.

Funny thing, in all the years I've had computers. I have never had an infection I couldn't pull out of my own rigs. Most likely due to removing them as soon as they infect.

I still use HJT on all the XP machines I work on for friends. Many of the senior communities still have them, as well.

Here's a few links which I'll send to your PM since posting this sort of thing is against the rules here.

Best Regards!

John
