What Anti-virus program do you have installed?
Were you able to get Windows update at some time prior to this error?
Can you give us a bit more information so we can possibly troubleshoot the problem?
I have the most recent version of McAfee Plus
I have never had any issues with updates or firewalls... I just went to check for updates last night and noticed it is no longer working... I can't really give you any information I mean it worked now it doesn't
aking,
In addition to answering Jacee's questions, see if the following helps:
Error 0x80070424 ocurs when you use Windows Update, Microsoft Update, or Windows Firewall
Worked perfectly.
Thanks!
What caused this issue in the first place?
EDIT: Windows update starts to work than "
Windows Update error 80246008"
So I follow the steps but in "Services" there is nothing called "Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)"
Also the firewall still not working
Let's try to find the cause...
Please use the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool
Download: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/
Select the version that applies to your system.
Save it to your Desktop.
Double-click the downloaded file to run it.
When the tool opens click Yes to the disclaimer.
Press the Scan button.
The tool makes a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory from which the tool is run (Desktop).
Please provide the FRST.txt in your reply.
The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log: Addition.txt
Also post the Addition.txt in your reply.
Next, download the Farbar Service Scanner
Save to the Desktop
Please provide the FSS.txt in your reply.
- Make sure the following options are checked:
- Internet Services
- Windows Firewall
- System Restore
- Security Center
- Windows Update
- Windows Defender
- Press: Scan
- FSS creates a log, FSS.txt, on the Desktop.
Windows update is now up and working fine. Still having an issue with Firewall.
I've got it fixed up to this point now I am stumped

There are a few issues showing on the FSS report.
Let's see if the following tool can take care of the bulk of them. If not, we will need to go at it manually.
Please do not attempt to do any more fixing on your own, as doing so at this point may complicate matters.
Since the following steps involve editing the Registry, please create new restore point before proceeding.
System Restore Point - Create
Select: Option Two
Now, please download the ESET ServiceRepair tool:
http://kb.eset.com/library/ESET/KB%2...icesRepair.exe
(Direct link only available)
Save to the Desktop.
Double-click to run the downloaded file.
When the program runs, a prompt appears asking if you want to proceed.
Click: Yes
When the Services routine is Completed, you are asked to Reboot.
Click Yes to allow the reboot.
The tool creates a folder named CC Support on the Desktop.
Please provide the CC Support\Logs\SvcRepair.txt in your reply.
Next, please run the Farbar Service Scanner once again, and
provide the FSS.txt in your reply.
Seems to be working great now..
Thanks!.
Also is it possible to format the hard drive and install a new copy of windows 7 from an external hard drive?
Only by providing the reports requested above can we determine if the identified problems are gone.Seems to be working great now...
In so far as the interesting question following the computer "seems to be working great"...
...your best is to go here:...format the hard drive and install a new copy of windows 7...
