I used Windows Defender Offline now Windows 7 Home Premuim won't load

I ran MSE on this computer and it picked up the Trojan Alureon. It said it couldn't completely unistall it and I had to use Windows Defender Offline. I installed WDO on my USB and ran it. Now I can't get windows to load and Startup Repair can't fix the problem. I've run it a few times and I've tried System Restore.

Welcome to the forum,

Sorry to hear about your troubles, unfortunately this is an all too common occurrence after using WDO.

I'm requesting this be moved to the security section where our experts will see it sooner.

Thank you, while waiting for a reply I also tried the Repair for the startup loop that did not help.

You're welcome, they should be along shortly.

The same thing happened to me on a neighbors computer and I ended up just doing a clean install.

Hopefully they have a fix for you. I think WDO needs a disclaimer about this problem, I've seen quite a few threads here about the same thing.

I was trying to avoid doing a clean install if I didn't have to, this isn't my computer I was cleaning it for a daycare. A disclaimer would have been nice. I was reading one of the threads with the same issue now. But It says not to run the same script they have posted.

A few more things to do yet ....

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
  • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

Using AdwCleaner v3: Scan & Clean:
Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool again.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin to scan your computer like it did before.
  • After the scan has finished...
  • This time, click on the Clean button.
  • Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
  • Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
  • After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder.

Glad you are able to boot, however, before you go too far with anything else, there are still items of concern on the FRST64 report that we need to take care of...

Please open Notepad (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad)
Copy the entire contents of the code box below
Save it to the Desktop, and name it: fixlist.txt

Code:
start
C:\Users\cg2\AppData\Local\{66d40c96-20e8-9413-0673-d1fe11918cc8}
C:\Users\cg2\AppData\Local\{66d40c96-20e8-9413-0673-d1fe11918cc8}\@
C:\Users\cg2\AppData\Local\{66d40c96-20e8-9413-0673-d1fe11918cc8}\L\00000004.@
C:\Users\cg2\AppData\Local\{66d40c96-20e8-9413-0673-d1fe11918cc8}\L\4cce1f70
C:\Users\cg2\govlog.dat
C:\Users\cg2\AppData\Local\Temp\MSETUP4.EXE
C:\Users\cg2\AppData\Local\Temp\nsb2FBA.exe
C:\Users\cg2\AppData\Local\Temp\tbStar.dll
TDL4: custom:26000022
end
Once again, double-click FRST64 to run it.
When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.

Press the Fix button, only once, and wait.

When done, FRST produces Fixlog.txt on the Desktop.
Please provide the Fixlog.txt on your reply.

Next, download the http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/down...scanner/dl/62/
Save to the Desktop!

Make sure the following options are checked:
Internet Services
Windows Firewall
System Restore
Security Center
Windows Update
Windows Defender

Press: Scan

When done, FSS creates a log, FSS.txt, on the Desktop.
Please provide the FSS.txt in your reply.
