    Microsoft Windows (Security) Essentials ?

    Hello,

    Thought I would, finally, download the virus protection that it seems everyone likes in Windows Essentials.
    Running W7, the 64 bit vers.

    But, I guess the latest "gimmick" is that all the download sites, that I thought, and imply, are MS sites are some other third party sites that also automatically change your Browser to Chrome, and install AVG !

    Can anyone point me to the official MS site please, and what I should select to just have the anti-virus
    component installed ?

    BTW: how does it compare to AVAST free ? Differences ?

    Thanks,
    Bob

    @Robert11

    A good site for both Freeware and Shareware Software is

    MajorGeeks.com

    They even have a warning on the download page that warns when a 'package' is going to try to add toolbars & etc.,

    Hope this was helpful

    MSE is a MS program, why would you dl it from anyplace but MS?

    Sadly most software/shareware/freeware repositories have become advertising distribution points.
