Hello Tommy & Golden...

Thank you for your suggestions. I successfully flushed, then stopped and started DNS Client Service.

But I.E. doesn't work. No matter which site I try to access, the error message is "The Page can't be displayed." When I click on "Fix connection problems" Troubleshooting tells me it "couldn't identify the problem."

Any more ideas would be welcome. Thanks.

Yes...Chrome 31.0.1650.57, FF 25.0.1.5064, and IE 11.0.9600.16428.

All 3 worked fine yesterday before the AVG virus removal cited in my first post above...but none access the internet now.

In Device Manager, is there a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark next to your network adapter?

You can try this, it will reset your Windows Host File, Internet Protocol, and Winsock. It will also renew your IP address and flush your DNS cache. Copy/paste the following in Notepad. Then click File and Save. Type reset.bat for the File name and change Save as type to All Files and save to your Desktop. Double click to run it. When its finished, reboot and see if you have net.

@Echo off
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
cls
echo Script finished.
pause
del %0

After you've checked Device Manager for missing drivers of course.

No, just the usual + sign. When I open it up, Device Status says "This device is working properly."

It's Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller, Driver Version 7.37.1229.2010.

I appreciate you trying to figure this out. Thanks.

O.K. On to the next step(s). Download Farbar Service Scanner (link follows) Open and select Internet Services. Click Scan. It will make a text log. Under File Check look for any missing files. It will say " Attention! File is missing and should be restored". If any files are missing, you'll have to replace them. Do this by typing the missing file in the search box and clicking Search Files. Copy/paste any replacement files to your C:\Windows\system32\Drivers folder. Then reboot.

Here's the link for FarBar : Farbar Service Scanner Download

By the way, have you ran a sfc/scannow to find and possibly repair any corrupted system files? We have many excellent tutorials here at the forums, here's how to do that if you haven't before :SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

You're a fount of information!

Results from your suggestions are:
  1. FSS reports "MD5 is legit" after all 9 file names.
  2. sfc scannow reports "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."
Still no internet access for Chrome, I.E., or FF.
