I dug a little deeper: here's some information you can work with.
Pmagma.exe related to Bringstar
Pmagma.exe Google results
herdProtect Analysis of pmagma.exe
The next steps are up to you Jack. I'll be glad to walk you through the malware scanners, but that's all I can do. If you don't want to download and run anything, that's your choice. I just don't know of any other way to clean up a computer that's infected.
Someone can point you to some very good tools and help you use them, but no one can help you clean up your system if you won't install and run the tools. Check out the links I posted and give it some thought.
herdProtect is pretty cool, it's still in beta though. I've used it to test and there didn't seem to be any side effects. you might consider the portable version which limits the footprint on your system (there has to be some footprint).
Anyway... that's really is all I have.
Good luck.

I don't use IE and have never installed an add-on..... just open it for WU.
Only IE add-ons are:
Adobe PDF
Java
XML DOM from MicroSoft
Was a arteemis search provider (removed)
And thanks for the effort .... I knew I was facing an uphill battle given the limited info available. As for the registry entries.... never had to face this before. Whenever I have done manual edits to registry I have never remoivbed the folder, just on eo fht eentries in it....so for example with,
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{7F729B23-22C4-4C83-9BC8-8B9C59F2A51A - refers to IBringStarBHO
Since "IBringStarBHO" is the only entry in the {7F729B23-22C4-4C83-9BC8-8B9C59F2A51A} folder I assume I don't have to leave the folder behind and remove the {7F729B23-22C4-4C83-9BC8-8B9C59F2A51A} folder as well ?
As for the ZA folks sending me here, i found that a bit off putting.....
Go into 'safe mode' and delete the folder. Reboot...
Then, download TFC by Old Timer TFC - Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer - Geeks to Go Forums and save it to your desktop.
Save any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!
Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. If you are using Vista/Windows 7 right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator.
Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean.
I'm only here to reply to one sentence in your post, don't let this sidetrack you.
Maybe I read it wrong, but I thought you posted on ZA and then came here and created this thread.
Later, someone on ZA thought they would help you there and pointed you to your thread here. I thought it was funny: on ZA: "Hi Jack, maybe your thread on Sevenforums can help you solve the issue"
It was propably the only search result for Bringstar :)
pmagma.exe gets more useful search results
I'll step out again, good luck.
Jacee is asking you to do some things, follow her lead.

Here's something on BringStar from Malwarebytes Posted Today:
https://forums.malwarebytes.org/inde...owtopic=141488
And repeated here:
Removal instructions for BringStar - Geeks to Go Forums
It was posted today at 4:38 AM. Prior there was next to nothing on the subject. I imagine that the latest update to the Malwarebytes database now includes a remedy for BringStar
Thanks, I was being facetious. I think Jack managed to supress the issue, but I'm not confident that there isn't something still lurking.
Jack seems to manage his machine the way he's comfortable doing. I respect that, I'm cautious on my machine too. There are times that I need other tools and I don't trust all of the stuff out there.
That's one of the great things about SF, members try the tools themselves and have a good understanding of the tool. Almost (I stress almost) any tool offered on SF has been vetted by people experienced in that area of computers (hardware, software, malware, OS, BIOS....)
Anyway, I'm not sure that Jack is still with us. If he comes back, there's lots of information for him to read.
Bill
.
Your facetiousness was understood.
I'm careful with my system as well, probably to a fault. At minimum I create a restore point before using any tool on my system but more then likely I will create an image. I use the search function on the forums extensively before using any tool as well as search the Internet. It's not that I have any trust issues on recommended tools by the members of this forum but more that I want to know what will happen, I call it training. Same goes for software installations.
I always want a path back to the prior state if needed.
