My apology. I can see now why Post 50 will not work. I am trying to do things on the fly, and that usually does not work well for me. I need to think things through.

Let me fall back, regroup, and come up with what to do next.

Did you rename the Microsoft Security Client already?
    If not, hold off.

    Thanks!

Let me know about the folder.

    Also, need some additional info...

Please open a Command Prompt by going to Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-click the Command Prompt and select: Run as Administrator

At the blinking cursor of the Command Prompt, copy/paste the following commands (using the mouse), one at a time, and press Enter after each:

    Code:

    cd C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client
    dir
After the results are displayed in the Command Prompt, go to the small icon on the upper left, right-click, and select: Edit > Select All
    Again, Edit > Copy

Now, open Notepad, paste the results, and post them in your reply.

Close the command Prompt by typing: Exit

    Good! :)

Please try uninstalling the program from Safe Mode.

    Use Option 1:
    Safe Mode

...and in Safe Mode, do the following:

Press the Windows key and the R key at the same time.
In the Open area, type (or copy/paste):
    Code:

    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client\Setup.exe" /x
    Press: OK

If the command above doesn't work, still in Safe Mode, try uninstalling from Control Panel > Programs and Features > Uninstall a Program

When done, do reboot if the computer does not do it on its own.

    Try installing MSE again.

Post back on how it goes.

    Thanks!

Trying both methods, get message: Microsoft Security Client Error. The Microsoft Security Client Installation Wizard can't find files that are necessary to complete the installation. To install this program, please download the installation again from the Microsoft Security Client web site.

Downloaded MSE again, saved to desktop, it noted that the extract was already on desktop, did I want to replace, yes. Opened, Microsoft Security Essentials installation error - Microsoft Security Essentials is already installed. .....first uninstall the current version, ..... Get help on this issue (link). Error code: 0x4FF02. Again tried uninstalling but prevented by original message.
    The above link is

This does not seem to display in full so have attached a txt of the link

    This is a Catch 22!!

Since the Control Panel route does not work, and neither does the Command issued, please try the following:

Looks as if you downloaded the MSE installer, and saved it to the Desktop.

Open the Command Prompt by right-clicking and selecting: Run as Administrator
At the Command Prompt, type (or copy/paste):

    Code:
    CD %USERPROFILE%\Desktop
    Press: Enter

    Type (or copy/paste):

    Code:
    mseinstall.exe /U
[Note!! A space between .exe and /U]

    Press: Enter

Any luck uninstalling Microsoft Security Essentials?
If yes, restart the computer, and try to install MSE again.

If still no-go, can you open MSE, go to the down-arrow next to Help (Upper right) and select: About
What is the AntiMalware Client Version?

Uninstall worked! I removed all traces from Downloads and Desktop. Restarted. No error message. Downloading again ok. Then a little way into installation get an installation error.

Cannot complete the Security Essentials installation. An error has prevented the Security Essentials setup wizard from completing successfully. Please restart your computer and try again. Error code 0x80070643.

I did restart, with the same result. The goal posts keep moving.
