"Repair Windows Errors" - audio prompt - source unknown
(I posted this topic earlier on whirlpool.com.au but I thought I'd try my luck copy/pasting it here to see if anyone has any insight on it)
I've just encountered an issue that must surely be malware of some kind, but I have no idea what's going on and Googling doesn't shed any light on it.
About half an hour ago, out of nowhere, a female computer generated voice over my speakers says "Repair Windows Errors". Nothing else, just "Repair Windows Errors".
I have only two applications running, Firefox and VLC which was playing a video at the time.
At first I thought there was a some weird audio glitch in the video and / or I was "hearing things", so I jumped back ten seconds and replayed it and it didn't happen again.
So then, more obviously maybe, I thought it must be a popup in Firefox. I checked, and didn't see any tab that it might have come from. Besides, all the sites open in the tabs are reputable sites that don't have popups.
I checked that Internet Security Essentials was up to date and ran a scan of the computer which came up with no results, so I tentatively shrugged it off and go back to what I was doing.
15 minutes goes by and I hear this voice speak again – "Repair Windows Errors" – and this time there's no confusion, I made the words out plain as day.
Anyone have an idea what's going on here?
Some quick googling has not given any results that would seem to relate to this specifically.
This is weirding me out big time.
(OS in Windows 7 Home Ultimate if that's relevant)
