Look on your Shutdown Button on Start menu to see if a yellow ! mark is there, which means you have Updates queued for shutdown which sometimes will flummox all others until they are gotten out of the way. This is a key way I sort my way out of Update congestion since it always seems to relate to that warning sign.

So you can bail out to Shutdown and it should install all of them which are already queued anyway if you have that Warning, sometimes causing other Updates to loop or not resolve until the ShutDown is done.

I would be sure you have used a new installation ISO from the official source and don't use any installers or files from the old installs at all.

Eset finally ended. Please don't tell me there is a log because I don't see one. There were 39 threats. They were almost all PUPs. Why do I have to specify what to do with Pups?

That's what happened Greg. At some point they all failed to update. After that I avoided installing wu.

    PUP: Potentially Unwanted Programs.

These might be a threat or not. ESET leaves it up to you to decide.

    39 threats!
The ESET Online Scanner saves a log file after running, which can be examined or sent in to ESET for further analysis. The path to the log file is
    "C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt"
(on 64-bit systems this directory will be
    "

    C:\Program Files (x86)\ESET\Esetonlinescanner\log.txt

It might not write to it until you complete the task (resolve the threats and exit)

Post a screenshot of what ESET shows you on the 39 threats - details not just that there are 39 threats

    GM,

Here's the log. Thanks for telling me where it was. Um, 39 is a lot?

I wish I'd have thought of a screen shot when the program was finished running

Thank you. I've a busy day. This pc has been keeping me hostage at home. Be back later. Thank you so much.

Don't download anything from CNET. Use the authors site.

I asked you to resolve Updates on Shutdown button not avoid Updates. We don't avoid Updates here but resolve their issues so you have Win7 and not an unpatched mess.

I'd reinstall with fresh installer, deleting all partitions, then only do all Important and Optional Updates after enabling Driver Auto Updating as shown in tutorial.

Once no more Updates are offered when you check again after reboots then post back programs and drivers needed and we will link you clean installers.

Use IE or Get your browser only from the maker's website and not any third party. If you don't know how to assure your at e.g. Firefox com we will link you there.

Thank you for your help Greg. I do appreciate your time and troubles.

Please let Bart handle my situation. He seems to have A LOT more patience with me than many here that have tried to help me. I feel very comfy with him because he doesn't make me feel like a dumb ass (I have an ((information)) processing disability), he is able to explain things in a way that I understand completely, totally has patience with me, and refrains from making me feel stupid (Bart are you a teacher? :) ) .. which frustrates me more, makes me feel bad, makes me want to say screw this. It's frustrating on your end too. I totally know and understand that. And I'm guessing that you don't set out to make me feel stupid, but I do, due to the hangups I have with this disability. It's the way in which I'm talked to. No disrespect to you and no bad feelings.

I wasn't frustrated with you at all and am teaching fundamentals myself at the same time that are also meant for others.

For example The logs reveal that there was no clean install done since no Windows.old folder would be created if the partitions had been correctly deleted during install or even minimally formatted. Instead the entire old install was archived in the new one which was therefore an infection path. I hope you don't take that personally.

But I am traveling overseas now and have limited time with my usual caseload which is 1 reply every 5 minutes. So if you're happy with others' help then that's fine too. I didn't want you to feel I was ignoring you . I also didn't realize there was any deficiency on either end.
