    I wonder if i have a virus physicaldrive0(mbr)

Last few days i been have a heck of a time with my PC, windows7 64bit i7 normal programs fail like filezilla and others that i normally run, they just freeze, having to reboot all the time, exploring quitting on me all the time. I ran malwarebytes on all my drives and it found only one which was a very old one on a backup drive from almost a year ago so i del that file, it was conduit toolbar.

So after that i decided to try to run a virus scan, it froze too. And it froze on a file called

i split it up here in pieces so it wont be a link but its all one string

    \\.

    \PHYSICALDRIVE0(mbr)

    is this a virus?

oh i also did a SFC and found nothing

i restarted to try to run my virus program in safe mode, and it took me 7x booting to get past the blue hand screen, im afraid if i shut it down again i wont get it back up. Isnt there a restart mode to restart in safe mode when you shut down.

Update: i found the config option to set it to boot in safe mode and i got it in safe mode, ran a full virus check with Security Essentials and found nothing, also while i had it in safe mode i reran malwarebytes, found nothing.

So i now i am sitting at selective startup. But it took me 5x booting to get here. And here is what is strange, I boot and it stops every time at the blue hand screen just sits there and not even esc will work. But twice now i have set it to boot and opened the drive by immediatley to put in the recovery cd and i dont even put the cd in, i just open the drawer and bam it boots up. What is that all about? It boots with a open drawer with no cd but wont without it... Stange... maybe its just coincedence

Question, my os is on C: sata digital drive, and my files are on E. and my restore is on D... if i restore will it just replace C or will i lose everything on E as well... C is supose to be just for windows from what i understand...

Am i safe to reinstall the OS without losing my files on E.

Update, i restored from 4 days ago and just had to reinstall the update for ccleaner, firefox, filezilla, then remove the two programs i removed that day and i rebooted and it came up just fine. So maybe that will do it...

OK defineately not a virus. It has something to do with my external hard drive. When the PC is frozen on the blue hand screen, all i do is reach up and unplug my external hard drive and it boots right up. So i will mark this as solved and start another thread in the other category. thanks
