If you have not paid any money to Malwarebytes you probably have the "free version". It is good for what it does, but it does NOT protect you in real time. Instead, it will FIND bad stuff ONLY when you open Malwarebytes and run a scan.

The paid version of Malwarebytes DOES protect in real time.

There are 2 versions of the paid version:

1: The older one is called "Malwarebytes Pro". It is now quite hard to find. The good thing about it was that it was a LIFETIME license. You paid once and nevermore, for one PC.

2: The new one, which is now called "Malwarebytes Premium". It's easy to find. It works fine, but the bad thing is that it is a subscription. You pay every year. If you quit paying, it quits working.

So, many feel the older paid version is better. If you can find it. A year ago, you could find it for 25, sometimes for 15. For a lifetime license, one time payment. Now, I see from Thrashzone's link, that it is up to 55 at Amazon. That's because it's in demand because you don't have to pay every year.

The current Malwarebytes Premium is 25 per year for up to 3 PCs.

You should run a scan right now because there is no telling what that yokel from Tech Help did to your PC. The free version of Malwarebytes won't protect you UNLESS you run it.

he only went inside he new one and it has free McAfee. Should he uninstall that one and set up MSE and buy the Malwarebytes? I also need to set up lifetime on mine too. Its on free trial as of a couple weeks ago.

My guess is that you have a trial version of Malwarebytes Premium. It protects in real time. But the trial version will quit working at some point--probably 30 days.

It's good for 3 PCs if you pay 25 per year. A subscription, like cable TV.

Your alternative is to get rid of it and buy the older "Malwarebytes Pro" for 55. Two copies. One for each PC. Total cost 110.

You have to decide if you want to pay 110 today for 2 PCs forever or 25 per year for up to 3 PCs, one year at a time, every year.

Both products provide real time protection and work in the same way.

If you choose to go with Malwarebyte Pro, it might be wise to first thoroughly remove the trial version of Malwarebytes Premium. I think there is a software download at Malwarebytes web site that will do a complete removal. I'm not sure if that is necessary, but it can't hurt.

A "free trial" implies it is a temporarily working version of a paid product. Probably works for 30 days. Probably a 30 day version of "Malwarebytes Pro".

The free version of Malwarebytes is probably what you have now if you have never paid them any money.

Or do you know for a FACT that you have a trial version of a paid product?

Look at that "about" tab in Malwarebytes.

The free version is free forever. It is NOT a trial.

McAfee is generally mediocre and difficult to remove. I would not use it personally.

If you want lifetime licenses of Malwarebytes, you need to spend 55 for each PC through Thrashzone's link.

Definitely remove McAfee before installing any other anti-virus or anti-malware.

MSE and Malwarebytes do NOT conflict with each other.

There's a tool you can download that will completely remove McAfee....probably look at McAfee site for it or Google for it. McAfee is notoriously a pain to get rid of.

Ok he is trying to get rid of Mac now. I'll try to get the 25 a year deal since we are old may not live long enough to benefit from lifetinme, lol. So it will work for 2 laptops ?

Ok we think its gone now. He did what you said. How do we now buy the yearly contract and do we need to uninstall trail malwarbytes to put it back on contract?
