Are there any folders that should be encrypted, for example temp folder and such?

    Hi and welcome

Be very careful encrypting. Lose the key and your data is gone. Usually ppl encrypt their data. Encrypting temp doesn't make it more secure. Encryption also slows down the process.

Could you tell us why you want to encrypt?

    Thanks

I found this "best practice" on Microsoft support site. I don't know whether it applies to Windows 7 or only older OS's:

"Encrypt the Temp folder (%TEMP%) to ensure that the temporary files that are created by various applications are encrypted."

How to use Encrypting File System (EFS) with Internet Information Services

My aim to keep out both physical people and internet intruders. Is the fact that decryption is always possible when you are logged on make it impossible to keep out people from the internet?

That guide is for IIS which the temp directory can contain valuable data and is employed on shared servers. While for home users...its not all the worth while or effective. And to block internet users, a good firewall.

Is Windows Firewall, with default settings, sufficient?
