Hi Jedy,
DefenseWall represents another/different security approach than standard AV software. You see, Avira offers detection based on almost 20 years old blacklists mechanism. DefenseWall offers prevention without signatures and blacklists one of the advantage in this approach is - you don't have to download everyday new signatures to keep your app able to detect new malicious code. Everyday malware writers release big number of new viruses:
"each day these scumbags create 200,000-300,000 new web sites with embedded infections"
Also note that number of infection list is still increasing:
Anti-virus vendors are getting more than 50,000 submissions of new malware per day now
Now compare these numbers to statistics from
1988-1995:
2.2- Observations of Computer Virus Prevalence
Do you see now what I mean when I'm saying - AV these days are outdated? It is impossible to add all these malicious signatures (~50,000) in one day - have a look at VirusTotal daily statistic:
http://www.virustotal.com/estadisticas.html - especially at
Failures in Detection (Last 24 Hours) Graph - Red: Infected files which one or more antivirus engines failed to detect as a threat.
Blue: Infected files detected by all antivirus engines.)
This is why AV's and your Avira didn't reach top note in this test.
BTW. I don't say - don't use AV, it is however another security layer, but for me AV works only as on-demand scanner (once per month/2months I do scan my system).
