In my opinion, it isn't a bad package, but you can get the same functionality for free with a firewall and HIPS like Comodo, antivirus/malware real time protection with Microsoft Security Essentials and/or WinPatrol, etc.
There are a lot of advocates for different security solutions here - just check the "Security" forum for threads on which is the "best". IMHO, it comes down to what you do with your system and whether you want to pay for a solution. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Gateway, Toshiba Laptop, and Home Brew OS Windows 7 x64 HP, Windows 7 HP, Windows 7 Ult CPU Intel I3, Cerelon, Pentium 4 @ 3Ghz Motherboard Intel, Intel, Asus Memory 8G, 3G, 3G Graphics Card On-board Intel, On-board nVidia, nVIDIA card Sound Card on-board, on-board, SoundBlaster Monitor(s) Displays Hannspree HF237, Toshiba, SyncMaster 931B Screen Resolution default (all) Keyboard standard wired (all) Mouse standard wired (all) PSU 300w, unk, 650w Case black, black, grey Cooling air (all) Hard Drives 1T internal, 320G internal, 160G internal, 1T networked Internet Speed 6M down, 768K up Other Info Home LAN through Linksys hub to 4 port and wireless switch/router. Because it does exactly what AVG claims - offers multiple layers of protection, doesn't slow my computers down, includes Identity Protection Technology, has an efficient Link Scanner, high speed scanning, I can safely exchange photos & other files with friends over social networking sites, download music, use email without worrying about phishers, scammers & spammers , and I am offered free, friendly support around the clock in the unlikely event that I will need it. As you may gather I am very happy with AVG.
