windows defender service does not exist as an installed service

I get an error stating windows defender service does not exist as an installed service 0x80070000424 I don't have microsoft essential. It was working fine until today. When I open the program and click on tools and others it will not click at all. Also, real protected is off. Also, its not under the services.

    Hi,
In win-7 windows defender is Not a antivirus program,
So what do you have installed as one

Install MSE if you haven't already or any third party antivirus if you wish they would usually disable defender anyway.
    Cheers.

I rather use the defender, but as I said above it started problems today.

Ok I think you don't understand me. I don't want a virus program. I just want to know how to fix this problem. That's all I want.

    Hi,
Then you shouldn't have a computer connected to the internet if you don't want an antivirus program.

Now if you wish too = not sure at this point but here goes nothing :)
Review Jacee’s instructions to run Adwcleaner here post #7,
Ignore the title of the thread,
    https://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/316404-instant-savings-app.html
On the BleepingComputer site use the button that looks like this,

You can use these free tools to see if they find anything,
Manually Update them before running full scans,
Try not to use your computer while the scans are running, (one at a time of course).
See this tutorial on how to download and run Malwarebytes,
    https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/338716-malwarebytes-anti-malware-free.html
Also use the Custom scan option not the Threat scan,

Please Do Not clean/ Delete or Remove Any detections before posting the scan results first before review especially Malwarebytes,
    http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
SAS is safe to remove anything it finds
    http://www.superantispyware.com/?tag=SUPERANTISPYWARE
This one is the longest up to 4 hours, the others are only about 45 minutes,

    Rose1,

If the above does not work, please run the following program to see what it shows about Windows Defender:

Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
    Download Mirror #1
    Download Mirror #2

    • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
    • Copy the content inside the following codebox into the main textfield:

      Code:
      :reg
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/services/WinDefend
      :service
      WinDefend
    • Click the Look button to start the scan.
    • When finished, a notepad window opens on the Desktop with the results of the scan.
Please post the SystemLook.txt in your next reply.

Also, please use the Farbar Service Scanner:
    Download: Downloading Farbar Service Scanner

Let's get a view of all services and dependencies scoped by the tool...

Make sure the following options are checked:
    Internet Services
    Windows Firewall
    System Restore
    Security Center
    Windows Update
    Windows Defender

    Press: Scan

When done, FSS creates a log, FSS.txt, on the Desktop.

Please, also provide the FSS.txt in your reply.

There is a Registry merge file that can be downloaded to deal with the problem you are having, however, it is best not to do so blindly.

Has your computer been infected lately? Asking this, because there is malware that raises havoc with services, and Windoew Defender is one of the favorites for it to target. We need to be sure malware is not involved.

    Thanks.

    Hello Rose,

In addition, see if downloading and merging the .reg file for the Windows Defender service from the tutorial below may help. It will restore the default registry entries for the service. :)
