trouble downloading/updating Microsoft Security Essentials
On the weekend I mistakenly turned off the power while my desktop was shutting down. The computer then wouldn't start Windows and after various failed attempts at system recovery I did a factory system restore.
Last night I successfully downloaded MSE but with the status per screenshot below.
I clicked the Update button and it downloaded for over four hours before telling me the update failed because of lost internet connection. I'm on satellite internet and the connection can drop in and out.
I hesitate to try to update the same way again, with such a long wait, but will have to if that's my only option.
So I'm wondering if there is a better alternative?
Thanks in anticipation.
ETA - Thought I should add some info that may/may not be pertinent. Since the factory restore the desktop is running Windows 7 Home Premium (without Service Pack 1) and Internet Explorer 8. I had problems installing the Windows Service Pack, and was unable to upgrade to IE 11 without it. I intend to seek separate help for these issues on this forum, once I've followed the posting guidelines. Cheers.
