can anyone offer a suggestion for a better program to minimize apps

    Good afternoon -

Whenever I try to open Microsoft Security Essentials the GUI briefly appears but then immediately closes, and the system tray icon disappears. If I try to reopen it the same thing happens. If I right click and choose Run As Administrator it opens and stays open. I am running MalwareBytes but have no other AV software running or installed (nor has there ever been). I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling MSE with the same results. I've done full scans with MBAM and MSE and no issues were found.

I tried using Avast instead... hated all the pop-ups... please help me get MSE back. Thank you!

    Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
    Have you tried this,
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2483120

Personally it sounds like a corrupt user account
Have you tested by creating a new admin account and using it to see if there's any difference ?

I have not tried that. Not sure why I would want to? I uninstalled it just fine from the control panel and then reinstalled it. I still have the same issue - when I try to open the GUI, it opens for a matter of seconds and then closes. If I start it by "Run as Administrator" it stays open.

I seem to have figured it out. A program I installed called TrayIt is what's closing it. When I close out TrayIt, MSE runs just fine. That's unfortunate........... can anyone offer a suggestion for a better program to minimize apps to the system tray rather than the task bar? Specifically I'm running a Minecraft Server on my PC for a LAN world for my three sons but I don't want to leave the program showing in the task bar all the time.

I requested your question be moved to a more appropriate section of the forum,
It was not a shot it was so you'd get better help than in the security section,
    Thanks for understanding.
