No suspicious processes are running, Kaspersky Total Security reports nothing (and never has) and I'm pretty capable on my PC, so I'm not sure if it is malware?...

It wouldn't be the first time something has slipped through a antivirus program
I would at least try Adwcleaner to see if it finds anything it only takes a minute or two to scan usually.

Try Malware Bytes' JRT, plus AdwCleaner, and, free MBAM....
between the 3 of them, I'd be surprised if anything hostile is present it they can't find it....

That's a blocked domain in my hosts file so I guess connection is unwanted.
I've seen some dodgy programs (ususally games) installers that attempt to download files. Did you install any software recently?
If not - then something sneaked through your browser is my best guess.
