No,if anything it will make your system a bit faster ,like 0.1% but you'll be exposed to malware/viruses.

EXACTLY!

It's a really, really bad idea, unless you plan to replace it with another robust, real-time anti-virus (and perhaps additional layered protection with an anti-malware application)?

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
A lot of people here use MSE as their antivirus program,
They also use mbam premium as well because a lot of free and paid for antivirus programs try but fail to provide malware protection,
MSE is one of them that does need help in that area but it's true for any antivirus program not just MSE.

So if you don't have the extra funds to get mbam premium then yes look into another antivirus program but be aware none really do very well at blocking malware they only try too.
Some are very windows unfriendly like AVG/ Mcafee/ and any IOBit product so stay away from those.

It won't slow down your system in any way. BUT you will be un-protected, which is a very bad idea. I would just stay with MSE, mainly because it is "windows friendly" and it is free unless you plan on getting a premium anti-virus with protection.
