    MSFT Security Essentials problem

    Hi Everyone,

I have a problem with Microsoft Security Essentials. For whateverreason, I keep getting a failed to update message. This happens daily and thedownload keeps running and blocking my usage of my computer. I think one thethings that bothers me the most is updates from Security Essentials doesn’t askyour permission to download. I have downloads set to notify me and let mechoose when I want to download and install them. That seems to work best forme.

I am thinking of getting rid of Security Essentials from mycomputer and going with AVG, as I am really tired of fighting this intruder, just like the way windows 10 was forced on anyone who used the Microsoft OS.

As I am writing this message in Word, I see by the flashinglights on my modem, S.E. is up to it again. Noting the error codes inMpCmdRun.log telling me S.E. is trying to download and install or downloadingwithout fail.

Looking at my CBS.log, the sessions of S.E. have gone onlong enough and that’s why I want to get rid of S.E.

My question is: deleting S.E. would be from Control Panel, uninstall a program or does anyone else have ideas on this?

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

    John

    Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
All antivirus programs self update why treat MSE differently than another ?

    I wouldn't swap for AVG
Avast possibly or better yet Panda but again they all self update

And yes uninstall with uninstall a program/ programs and features.

I have been getting the following log entry up until today.

MpCmdRun: Command Line: "c:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client\MpCmdRun.exe" SignaturesUpdateService -ScheduleJob -UnmanagedUpdate
    Start Time: ‎Thu ‎Aug ‎20 ‎2015 08:03:07
    Start: Signatures Update Service
    Update Started
Search Started (MU/WU update) (Path: Microsoft – Official Home Page)...
    Search Completed
    Update failed with hr: 0x8024402c
    Update completed with hr: 0x8024402c
    End: Signatures Update Service
    MpCmdRun: End Time: ‎Thu ‎Aug ‎20 ‎2015 08:03:08

The update I have been having trouble with is the M$ antimalware prg.

Today, at 1300 hrs, I received a download without any problems. Go figure. I may keep M$ S.E. if it behaves.

Thanks for your help on this.
