    Password protected files

Is there a way to password protect a file in W7 or do you need 3rd party software?

You would need to add the password settings from within the application used to create the file if that app has the feature available

Take advantage of the Windows permissions system. For instance, files within your user profile (c:\users\<username>\, by default) is accesible only to you and computer administrators. By putting a password on your account and making sure nobody else has admin access the files are effectively guarded by a password.
