Enlightenment on MSE and RTP please :D

    Hi,

From what i can understand thus far, is that MSE also serves as an anti-spyware tool (such as spybot, malawarebytes or superantispyware). What im confused about is its "Real-Time Protection"; does it scan for viruses, spyware, or both, in real-time?

I ask this because currently i am using MSE as an on-demand antivirus and real-time anti-virus scanner. For spyware i use malwarebytes and superantispyware as on-demand scanners. I have full (paid) versions of malwarebytes and superantispyware but i've been told that malwarebytes does a better job for RTP so i enable it.

Will the RTP for malwarebytes affect/interrupt MSE's RTP in any way?

Also, as an added layer of protection, would spywareblaster be useful, as it protects your computer differently than on-demand and RTP (it doesnt run in the background).

    Any input would be appreciated.

Most Spyware products won't interfere with each other so you can have multiple ones with RTP enabled and you should be fine...Anti-Virus apps on the other hand don't normally get along with each other

"For Anti-spyware: periodic scans by different programs are quite alright, while the real time monitors installed by these utilities can easily come into conflict. Make sure only one package has its real time monitoring facility enabled."

ive read quotes similar to this in many articles, regarding both anti-virus and anti-spyware programs.... this is the 1st im hearing that having multiple anti-spyware apps with RTP enabled is okay.... even if this is entirely true, for knowledge-sake, does MSE have RTP for spyware, or is the RTP focused only on viruses.

Dinesh and other folks on here who really study security can easily say yay or nah but in my experience I have never had issues with multiple antispyware apps having their RTP on...

Anti-Virus apps always caused me trouble with this...

Microsoft Security Essentials is using the same method of scanning Windows Defender has used. Basically you can set it and forget it. It will play nice with MalwareBytes RTP.

Yes, install and update SpywareBlaster! BTW, it does run 'silently' in the background.

Hi there, you can use anti spyware apps like MBAM and Superantispyware along with MSE as an added layer of security. An antivirus protection alone may not be sufficient.

Okay thanks for this confirmation. I'll keep my superantispyware as an on-demand scan only then.

Oh ok, i didnt know spywareblaster was focused mainly towards the browser (active x and cookies). In that case it wouldnt affect my malwarebytes . Thanks for the link bro.

Well ive gotten enough useful responses, and my questions have been answered. Thanks for all the input guys.
