    Can't remove Albireo from Chrome

I am having a similar issue as the person in this existing thread:

    Help With Albireo Virus

I have some piece of malware "Albireo" that hijacks all pages I open in all browsers on this computer, throwing up a million pop-ups and forcing a lot of page redirects, and sometimes preventing all clicks on the page entirely.

Like the user in the above-linked thread, the easy solutions (uninstalling from program list, removing from extensions, etc) do not work, as there is simply no trace of the software so easily accessible. However, the solution that was found for the user in that thread does not work for me, as the file locations that were identified for him do not exist on my computer.

All installed programs and all running processes (both in the computer and in chrome) appear benign. I've tried reinstalling all browsers and it has had no effect. I've attempted to use several anti-virus programs but none of them have identified the problem. Whatever is causing this is exceptionally crafty, and I'm considering nuking the computer and simply reformatting the hard drive, but that would be the last resort (I'm not even confident that this would fix it; if it is an extension or something that is attached to the Google account I use with Chrome, then it may just redownload itself anyway).

Does anyone have any suggestions for how I might tackle this issue?
