can't install or turn Microsoft Security Essentials

I had Avast installed and I uninstall it as I wanted to use MSE again. When i try to activate it, I get error 0x8007002. When i try to install it again, I get 0x8004FF91.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Nope, but i tried running them several times now. I also tried deleting the Microsoft Security client folder in Program Files and running the installer again, but i am still getting the same errors.

It doesn't sound like it's MSE that is the mess, rather that you haven't completely uninstalled Avast. It might be worth reinstalling Avast and then uninstalling it using the proper removal tool.

    Hi,
Right click the removal tool and select run as administrator
Do the same for the mse installer after using this

just tried that now. I get the exact same error as my second screen shot. Do u think Malwarebyte Free is causing this even tho it is not running?

    Hi Emeem,
Malwarebytes free DOES NOT affect either MSE or Avast.

    run SFC /SCANNOW
    copy/paste the results
