Bye Bye Baidu!

Hello All,

I want to share my experience with Baidu 2015 Anti Virus program. I stupidly downloaded it with the intention of replacing my former anti virus program, Amiti Antivirus.

The next day, I discovered that Baidu had seized my Firefox browser, my PDF files, and all my .exe files. I tried to uninstall it using my Windows 7 Professional tools with no success. I could not open the uninstall features on Windows 7. Malware Bytes was deactivated as well.

I tried to remove it in Safe Mode using ComboFix. exe. That also failed. I still had access to the internet with Chrome. Baidu didn't touch that. At no time did Baidu demand a ransom to return control of my computer back to me. It just locked me out of most of my computer functions and files.

Finally, I downloaded RevoUninstall.exe, the free version. I opened it up in Safe Mode and ran it. Low and behold, it removed the Baidu files from everywhere, including the Registry.

I had sought help from You Tube videos but was leery of downloading the recommended software since I never heard of it. Furthermore, the tips on entering the Registry made me uncomfortable. I don't have much experience there.

I hope this experience helps anyone out there that finds themselves in the same predicament.

Thanks for the heads up mate - personally if I get rubbish stuff like that I always head to the registry and find the entries for the nasties and delete them.

That is also handy for removing some of the add ons that one misses while downloading something else and the small check boxes for rubbish like the Askbar and Google toolbar etc

I have to add though if one does it like that it is always a good idea to back up the registry first in case an entry you do unintentionally delete can be recovered from the back up. Of course this only applies when anyone is confident enough to do stuff in the registry like that.

Better yet, keep a complete backup on an external drive and only connect it to your computer when you do backups or restores. Helped me a few times!

Strange choice of anti virus programs in my opinion. (Amiti Antivirus and Antivirus Baidu)

I have found no way of removing everything when removing a anti virus program any Antivirus program, except doing it by hand in the registry. One must be very careful when changing or removing anything in the registry.
The last anti virus program I removed using the anti virus removal tool still left over 100 entries in the registry. I quiet counting a 100 and just kept removing them until they were all gone.

Better yet, keep a complete backup on an external drive

Yep well I image on a regular basis so I don't have to worry too much and more often than not I have a clone of the original drive kept spare

I agree Jack I always check too as many a time I have removed especially Norton with their removal tool there is always Symantec remnants. I find that a little "sneaky" in a sense because if you told someone to do this and they did not know - looking for a Norton entry they possibly could miss it. But that happens with quite a few softwares I find.
