Oh... also:- I had already been to TZ's page where he recommends: Xvid - DownloadSorry to report but that's where all the junk came from ... the most persistent was chedot.com so in the end I re-loaded my
latest systems image and that gave me back my computer (phew!).
Not sure what you clicked on. I followed ThrashZone's link and downloaded and installed that codec with zero problems.

    Used this link:

Help with CodecFix -Xvid file (.xz) needed- read this Warning-xvid-download-1.jpg

    Got directed to this mirror:

Help with CodecFix -Xvid file (.xz) needed- read this Warning-xvid-codec-downloads.jpg

Clicked download button and confirmed the file name before download.

File was actually downloaded from h**p://files4.dddload.net/static/Xvid-1.3.4-20150621.exe

Ran check on the downloaded file:

Ran the installer. Got this alert:

Help with CodecFix -Xvid file (.xz) needed- read this Warning-mj-regwatcher-alert.jpg

    Accepted the change.

    Installed no problem.

    Hi,
Yea TrekDozer posted the xvid download I just posted vlc it comes with many codex already :)

If vlc can't play it than it's just a corrupt file I'd guess :/

yes Anak ... I decided (like TZ's sggestion) that there was corruption with the two video files so deleted them.
I am pleased to see Callender followed up on the download and found it quite safe so I will revisit.
What I have gained from your contributions is a way to test files and URLs prior to d/loading and that is really helpful.

FYI: Easy way to check downloaded files before you run them:

VirusTotal Scanner : Free Desktop Tool to Perform Quick Anti-virus Scan using VirusTotal | www.SecurityXploded.com

    Download link: Downloading File VirusTotalScanner.zip | www.SecurityXploded.com

You get a right click menu to launch a scan of executables:

Or you can launch the program and drag a file onto the window.

Excellent Callender! have downloaded and will install and get to know ... it's what I've wanted, to be able to scan prior to installation. Thanks indeed.
