Email scans

Hi, I have downloaded and installed the free Windows Security Essentials from Microsoft. I dont know if this scans emails or if there really is a need to do so.
If there is a need to scan emails and this is not covered by WSE, is there a recommended email scanner to download ?

My email client is Thunderbird.

Also, my set up has Glarys Utilities free edition to "optimise" and clear dead files etc and I wondered how good this was compared with others ?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Andy

There is no need to scan emails. In fact it has caused problems in the past. If you open something, the AV should catch any virus then.

Never used Glarys Util.
