Windows 7 - Password Security?

Hi again,

A few days ago my mom and I recieved a message in our screen, right next to our virus-thingy and stuff. It said that it was recommended to use a password on our computer and if we didn't our computer might not be safe - or something like that. Don't remember what it said. But we did put a password in our computers now and we'd like to know how we can get it out of our systems. It's a password that you can use when someone else wants to login on their account but there's no need for us to do that 'cause we all have our own computers... So is there a possibility to get it out of our systems without doing a complete new installation?

Try doing a system restore to a point before you had this problem...

I'm not sure doing a system restore point for passwords help. I think you just remove password in UAC.

I don't think it'll help either... What is the UAC?

The easiest way to do this is to click on your user icon on the start menu.

Second item down is remove your password

The post above me said what you had to do in UAC, User Account Control.

UAC (User Account Control), is a security device for automatically elevating a user's rights from Normal to administrator level.

It is not involved in the actual setting of passwords but only in the better implementation of security permissions that may be protected by passwords.

The route I posted leads to the User Accounts screen rather than the UAC

I'd keep the password but what you can do is to bypass the initial logon screen - You'll find in some cases for instance when sharing disks between machines you in some cases won't be able to unless you have a password.


so do the following from the main Orb menu.

1) all programs==>accessories ==>run

2) in the run box type in control userpasswords2

3) Uncheck the box Users must enter a username and password to use this computer

4) on the box that appears prompting you for a default user and password type in your user name and a password.

Now next time you re-boot you'll get straight into your desktop bypassing the log in screen altogether -- much better IMO and you've still got a password.

I deleted my password and I'll let you guys know if I get that message again. If I do, I just use the password and I'll try the option Jimbo45 said. Thanks for your help!
